"Fruit Bowl On Battenburg Lace"

This is a colored pencil piece drawn from life. Because colored pencil works take so long to finish, it requires replacing the fruit often or else the fruit flies become rather annoying. My favorite part was the reflection of the lace in the blue, ceramic bowl.  The challenge inherent in this and other still life paintings of mine is to find beauty in everyday items that we normally just pass by without a thought.  Once a shaft of sunlight hits fruit, ceramics, or any other of the every-day objects and props that I choose - there is a magic simply waiting to be captured in time through colored pencil, pastel, oil, or mixed media.  If you take a moment to look, you'll become aware of the beauty around you, even in the simplest of objects.
